Today while in my local Apple store, it came to mind, is it a good thing that Apple only use one type of hardware or is it a downfall of theirs?  I contemplated this for a while and thought of the following:

Standardising on hardware makes driver and application development much much easier.  Less conflicts, less supplier/vendor relationships, better discounts and buying power…but then I thought about the drawbacks:

It sometimes seems to take forever to get an Apple from the store because they always seem to be in short supply due to component shortage.  Repairs seem to take a lot longer than normal (maybe its a quality thing?) .  You have less options/combinations to buy a new machine.

So, I’m still up in the air as to whether its a good thing or not.  I do know one thing though, very rarely will you find me without my Apple MacBook Pro :)
