HP & Server 2008 R2

With the wave of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 coming at us, HP have released what they call an “integration note” detailing “Implementing Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta on HP Servers”.  It goes through software drivers, storag options, NICS and tasks and procedures to install and test 2008 R2 on their kit.  A good read I’d definitely suggest:

In 3 years HP will cut 1/2 the island I live on

HP has announced today that they are going to cut over 24,000 staff over the next three years with the advent of the EDS merger.  The restructure will save (according to the number crunchers) $1.8 billion per year.  Supposedly some of the positions will be replaced over time – sure, that’s what they all say.  All I know is that I live in a place with just under 60,000 as the population, so over the next three years HP will be cutting staff numbers amounting to 50% of where I live, WOW!
