Send me email at my web address–what?

So, I take the bus to and from work every day as I’m still a bit European in my ways. The bus company – I won’t mention any names – recently announced some new routes and as such they’ve posted announcements about the upcoming changes. Have a look at this one, which I found funny (at 6 a.m.!):

proposed route 234

The best part, which like I said, made me laugh at 6:00 a.m. was Jack’s email address in the last paragraph. If you’ve got problems you’re supposed to send him email at which makes me wonder Jack, do you want me to email you or go to the website cause that surely isn’t an SMTP compliant address.

Now Boarding – Anti-Virus flights from SEA (with Alaska Air)

For those of you who commonly read MVP blog posts, you know where we all were last week, right?  Well, if you didn’t there are loads of places that will tell you we all descended on Redmond for a big summit, but the rest…Well, I’m under NDA.  However, when I was leaving Sunday, I wasn’t the only one at the airport.  Sure you say, there are loads of passengers at the airport.  Nope, this is no normal passenger.  On Sunday, February 21, Alaska Airlines had a very special passenger…He kept “popping” up everywhere…to Las Vegas:

…to Palm Springs

…to San Diego:

(apologies for the fuzzy images above, I was on a bit of a recon mission without trying to get kicked out of SeaTac) :)  Who was this stray passenger?  Well, let’s have a closer look at other monitors around SeaTac:

Ah, ok it was Mr Micro.  Most people call him Trend.

What have we deduced from this lesson?

– Alaska Airlines uses Trend Micro A/V on their corporate LAN

– Ensure you make alerting silent if the machine is connected to a kiosk 🙂

Happy travels!!

IT Staff Opening – W H Smith this time…

In my quest to try and help all of the companies I use (EasyJet and BAA) I’ve come across another company that might need some IT help – or at least a proof reader before supplying corporate with their gear.  I went shopping in WH Smith and came across this beauty:

Looks like the same people who work for EasyJet have left and now work at WH Smith.  Guys, you might want to either (a) embed your fonts in to your PDF (if that’s what you’re using) or (b) ensure the font exists on the machine that is doing the printing.

Another IT lesson learnt and another company in search of proper staff 🙂

The Many Windows 7 Websites of Microsoft

Seems that someone has been publishing websites again, just a bit too early.  A few weeks ago if you went to the Windows 7 TechNet site you got this:

oops.  Soon disappeared and you got the regular page back:

This weekend, if you went to the Microsoft Partner Portal for Windows 7 you got:

Download the RC *now* it says and the official one is available 05 May.  It’s a public partner site so you don’t need a Live account to get there.  However, soon after the hiccup, it went back to:

So, all in all, it’s been quite eventful lately in web services at Microsoft….
