Windows 7 + MDOP + Office 2010 = One Big Bus

Do you have a passion for IT?  Do you want to learn more about Windows 7?  Do you want to know more about Office 2010?  Do you even know what MDOP is?

If any of the above questions intrigued your interest and you are close to the east coast of the USA, this is THE EVENT for you.  Two weeks prior to Tech Ed, the Microsoft Bus Tour returns and hopefully is coming to a city near you

Are any of the below cities near you?

Montreal, May 21 | Boston, May 24 | New York, May 25 | Philadelphia, May 26 | Washington DC, May 27 & 28 | Richmond, June 1 | Raleigh, June 2 | Charlotte, June 3 | Atlanta, June 4 | New Orleans, June 5

If they are, you need to head over to and register NOW (not later, not tomorrow, NOW!!). Spaces are limited and they will fill up fast, I mean, c’mon…when was the last time a big rig rolled in to your town full of geeks giving knowledge away!?

Further, should you want to follow the Bus, we’ll be ending up at TechEd North America 2010 in New Orleans which if you haven’t registered for that either, what are you waiting for?!!?

What You Missed at TechEd Middle East 2010

There was a first this year.  Microsoft hosted a TechEd in the Middle East.  Dubai to be more specific.  For those of you who missed it, here’s just a little taste of what you missed:

First there were the welcome signs:

Then there was the information about it being the first in Dubai and all the support that the Middle East was to get:

Then there was the first day’s trip to the President of Dubai’s house:

…and the desert tour in Land Cruiser 4×4’s

Which ended with a camel ride:

And the view from our hotel rooms of the Dubai skyline:

Of course, there was the Tuesday night party, where the Nigerian’s stole the stage and sang Spice Girl’s Classics:

…and the funky Microsoft Lighting:

So, if you didn’t go to TechEd Middle East 2010 this year in Dubai, you should really be kicking yourself.  It was spectacular and second to none…Good news is though, it’ll be on again next year.  Hope to see you there, and thanks again to all of those who made the above the great event and experience it was!

See MVP’s at TechEd…serious

So, every visit to TechEd is about education, swag gathering and clueing up on more Microsoft 1’s and 0’s, right…Well, occassionally (ok every TechEd) you see the MVP’s going around answering questions in the TLC and also in the Hands On Labs areas, but not only are we there to help you, we’re also there to see each other.  One of the fun things about all conferences is that we all get to get together again and share stories.  I was privileged enough this TechEd to meet up with Karen Young from the MVP team and share my experiences along with my colleague Erdal about TechEd, our love for helping the community, and a few other things…Watch and enjoy, I’m sure you’ll find humour in it 🙂  In fact, if you’re at a TechEd in the future, stop by the MVP booth or even stop by and see either Erdal, myself or Karen.  You’ll be glad you did 🙂

Helping you Justify TechEd to your Boss

OK, so it’s a bit too late for it this year, but while at TechEd, my colleague Erdal and I did a quick 9 minute presentation for TechEd Online on how to help justify TechEd to your boss.  Why it’s important to visit, what you’ll gain from visiting, who you’ll run in to and best of all, a look at TechEd itself.

Hop across to TechEd Online and view it and be sure to share it with your boss (rate it too 🙂 ) and hopefully see you at either the next TechEd North America or TechEd Europe Next year!!

TechEd Europe 2009 – Mark Russinovich

EDIT: I’ve been showcased on the Springboard homepage in the community section, however they linked my blog to here 🙂 I’m sure most of you see the “Home” link above, but in case you want to get to the blog itself, here’s a direct link for you to click on

So, at TechEd USA in May I got to interview Mark and see how he was doing.  Well, today just hanging out, Mark came by our Springboard booth and we had a chat and catch up again:

DSCF0612 (1024x757)

he’s done quite a few sessions here at TechEd, even a cool 400 level one that went deep in depth regarding the kernel and other sorts.  Oh yeah, there’s also various of his old company Sysinternals tools in built to Windows 7, not to mention he’s a Springboard Advocate of ours. Yet another of the many reasons to come to TechEd.  Oh yeah, and to prove he’s an advocate of ours, here he is with Stephen Rose doing an interview about our new release of Windows 4.0 –

TechEd Magic – Now You See Her…Now You Don’t

It’s that time again for the IT Crowd…TechEd Europe.  It’s the big Microsoft event every year we all look forward to.  It’s worth the weight in gold just for the networking.  As an MVP and MCT you meet others from the community who you commonly exchange email with and talk with, but this time, it’s face to face.

Last year I had the opportunity to work with one such influential person on the Microsoft Learning (MSL) stand and was looking forward this year to seeing her again.  Well, unfortunately she wasn’t selected to man the booth again, however as she’s German and the conference is in Berlin I did get the chance to see her:

Theresia and Justin at TechEd (724x1024)

It’s my good friend Theresia Riesenhuber.  What is even better is that upon her arrival in Berlin (just to say hello to all of her friends mind), she brought me an orange laptop bag, which I asked her for last year.  Wow, can you believe she kept that for an entire year (it’s the orange bag in the photo on the right above)!

So, as you can see, TechEd isn’t just about learning, it’s about the experience and seeing people as if it’s a family reunion of sorts and similar to some things MasterCard can’t buy, the experience is priceless. Unfortunately though, the experience this year is without Theresia, though it was brilliant to catch up and hopefully I’ll see her again on the floor soon at another conference!

It’s Here, so download and install – but PLEASE * 27 – do a fresh install

For those of you technophiles who haven’t been living under a rock, you know that today, August 6th, 2009, Microsoft are releasing the code for Windows 7.  For those of you that have TechNet Plus or MSDN Subscriptions, the wait is over:

So, go out and download it now.  HOWEVER, PLEASE * 27 (why 27?  Well, it’s my favourite number), but anyways, PLEASE do a fresh install.  DO NOT UPGRADE.  Yes, I know you can upgrade it, but why would you want to?  The first thing anyone who is going to potentially support you will ask is – did you do a fresh install?  If your answer is no, ask yourself why!  If something went wrong during the Beta or the RC which you might have loaded, guess what, you bring that bad stuff along with you.  A fresh install is always better.

So, you ask, how do you get TechNet Plus or MSDN if you don’t have it?  Well, the easiest way is to visit TechEd.  Not only do you get good information from all the great speakers like my colleague Andy Malone, or even me & Erdal Ozkaya, you get a FREE YEAR SUBSCRIPTION to TechNet Plus and with it comes Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 when it comes out.

So, now I’ve said that, what are you waiting for?  Go get the code complete, install it and let us know what you think…where you say?  Well, naturally over at Springboard – – you’re one stop resource for Discover > Explore > Pilot > Deploy > Manage

If You Didn’t Go To TechEd USA (you should have)…This is what you missed

Sometimes it isn’t always possible to get to TechEd for one reason or another…If you didn’t get the chance to visit TechEd North America this year in Los Angeles, don’t worry.  We’ve got what’s being termed as the “Man On The Street Videos” for you to see what it was you missed – or even reflect on the experience that is TechEd.  Thanks to Springboard and STEP (Springboard Technical Experts Panel), Erdal Ozkaya, Justin Rodino, Elias Mereb, Aaron Tiensivu and Daniel Nerenberg came up with the videos below.  They’re in Alphabetic order for your convenience, but well worth watching when you have a few free minutes.  Also, thanks to the Springboard team – Stephen Rose, Caitlin Angeloff, and Melissa Bathum for putting up with all of us crazy characters and hope to see you all at TechEd Europe in Berlin!

One other note, there are still a few more to come, but these are the good ones we wanted to share with you right away!
